“When You’re With Filipinos, You’re With Family!” This was the marketing slogan that was shown as a commercial during the Miss Universe pageant. For many Filipinos, this statement is true. It does not matter what social status they may be in, at the moment, Filipinos are one of the most hospitable people in the world. This has to do with how their parents, grand-parents, and great grand-parents raised them as children.
Growing up as a young kid, in a family of five, we did not have much, but my parents always provided and made sure that us kids always had things to eat. I often noticed that my parents would always hold back from eating too much until my siblings and I were finish eating.
When people would come over to visit for any reason, they were always offered a drink or something to eat, and even if they resisted, they would end up drinking and eating something. When my friends would come over for any reason, they too would end up some sort of nourishment, and just like the commercial, they were also referred to as “Anak”.
This gets me to thinking that if more nationalities all over the world adapted the hospitable nature of Filipinos, then there would be less war and hatred, and more love within the family.
